Why the name changed
Farmers Insurance did not renew as title sponsor after the 2026 tournament, and on June 1, 2026, the PGA Tour announced that Sentry Insurance would take over. Sentry had been the title sponsor of the Tour’s season opener at Kapalua on Maui since 2018. That Hawaii event wasn’t held in 2026, and Sentry moved its sponsorship to San Diego.
Plenty stays the same. The Century Club of San Diego, the nonprofit that has run the tournament for decades, is still the host. The event will be played on both the North and South courses at Torrey Pines, the city-owned course that has hosted the Tour every year since 1968. The 2027 edition is the 60th at Torrey Pines, and the tournament itself dates to 1952, when it started as the San Diego Open.
The defending champion is Justin Rose, who won at Torrey Pines in 2026 at 23 under par, according to the PGA Tour.
A Saturday finish
The Sentry runs Wednesday through Saturday instead of the traditional Thursday-to-Sunday schedule. ESPN reported that the Saturday finish avoids going head-to-head with the NFL’s conference championship games. For locals, it means championship day lands on a Saturday, and your Sunday is free.

Getting there and parking
Parking at Torrey Pines is tight, and tournament parking is sold in advance only, with no sales on site. The tournament lists options including the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the Sanford Consortium, Scripps lots A and B, and Hilton valet. Organizers recommend rideshare: the drop-off and pickup area and the Ridesharing Lounge are at the Gliderport entrance. If you ride, there’s a bike valet.
Want to volunteer?
The Century Club relies on volunteers from the Tuesday Pro-Am through championship Saturday. Registration for 2027 hasn’t opened yet. To get notified, email volunteer@centuryclubsd.org. The tournament’s mission is to benefit San Diego and its youth, and its Champions for Youth program funds local youth-serving organizations.
